These are the top emergency numbers in South Africa that you have to know:
To report a serious crime – ongoing or otherwise – this is the number you need to dial. Stay on the line and give as much detail as you can, and don’t hang up until a unit has been dispatched to your area.
This is a non-crime related number and best to use if there has been an accident rather than injuries resulting from criminal activity. If you need to report a fire, this is your go-to number as well.
Whether it’s a medical issue, one of fire or even crime, calling 112 will allow an operator to patch you through to the relevant department. This is South Africa’s equivalent to 911 (US) or 999 (UK).
Although it’s recommended you use one of the first three numbers listed, those not under Netcare’s health plans can still call them for medical assistance.
The Emergency Response team are on hand to deal with serious injuries, and they respond to many road traffic accidents as part of their remit.
If you are a victim of abuse or need to report a case of it, this is who you need to contact. They provide expert care and are able to assist in the most difficult of circumstances.
